Dr. Aneesh V. Pillai is an Associate Professor of Law at the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kerala. He also serves as the Coordinator of the Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer Chair on Human Rights at CUSAT. Prior to joining SLS, he was a faculty member at Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur. Dr. Pillai holds a Ph.D. in Law from CUSAT and also qualified the State Eligibility Test (SET) for Law. An accomplished academic, Dr. Pillai has received multiple accolades, including the “Distinguished Young Faculty Award, 2017-18” from CUSAT, the Prof. (Dr.) A. T. Marcose Memorial Gold Medal for securing First Rank in LLM, and the K. C. Menon Memorial Gold Medal for the Best LLM Student. He is also a Post-Doctoral Fellow of the Mediterranea International Centre for Human Rights Research, Italy. Dr. Pillai has authored books on diverse legal topics, including State Responsibility under International Law; Artificial Intelligence; Surrogate Motherhood, NDPS Act etc.  He has also edited works like Cyber Laws: Issues and Concerns and Secularism and Freedom of Religion, etc. He has participated in numerous prestigious international conferences and training programs across the globe, including the IUCN Funded Train-the-Trainers Program in Sri Lanka, the IUCN Annual Colloquium in the Netherlands, and various conferences in Indonesia, Bangladesh, Turkey, China, Israel, South Africa, USA, and Singapore. His invited lectures span institutions such as the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh; Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia; National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Taiwan; Binh Doung University, Vietnam and the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil; etc.
